Palestine Is Overrated?

Okay I click-baited you. Palestine is not overrated, the quest for a Palestinian state should be encouraged. But the Israeli-Palestinian issue, is an issue that receives so much attention but causes little change. If other conflicts around the world received 1/4th of the coverage Palestine/Israel received there’d be some resolutions, but nevertheless Israel and Palestine is a significant problem to this day. Discussion of possible solutions leads to the constant anchor of excuse “the issue is complicated.” And while there are complexities when you comb through the details, the overall issue itself is pretty simple. Palestine should be a sovereign state. But the pragmatic realities of the region prevent Palestine and Israel from achieving genuine peace.

Prior to giving a brief synopsis, context is always important I guess. If you’ve clicked on at least 3 Instagram stories you’d noticed there’s something going on in the Middle East. To your average American, who (hmmm how do I put this politely) doesn’t really care for international issues, let alone Middle East issues. But if there’s any Middle East conflict Americans feel well versed in, its Israel-Palestine. Most only know superficial stuff, Israel good (ally) Gaza=Hamas (bad guy). Outside of the politicians who make AIPAC speeches, they’re not really tapped in to the issues. But one thing that’s constantly…
